Difference between ideographic and nomothetic concept

Ideographic Vs. Nomeothetic

The history of geographical thinking is described in various ways, but in most cases, some problems arise in evolutionary & methodological ways of describing these thoughts. A new perspective on geography has been introduced to analyze these problems. Notable among them is the Ideographic & Nomeothetic approach. The distinguish between Ideographic & Nomeothetic approach describe below:

      i.         Definition
When geographical element are discussed in a descriptive way, is called ideographic approach.
The contents of geography are analyzed by scientific & mathematical formulas, is called nomeothetic approach.
     ii.         Antiquity
It is relatively ancient idea.
It is relatively new idea.
   iii.         Supporter
Hettner, Hartshorne, Veronica, Kant etc. are the main proponent of this idea.
Humboldt, Schacfer etc. are the main proponent of this idea.
   iv.         Principles
It was developed with the help of direct observation & theoretical analysis.
It was developed with the help of theory, model, mathematical formulas & zodiac science.
     v.         Regional Differences
Regional differences are ignored here.
Regional differences are specially important here.
   vi.         Generalization Method
Here, the general rules are established in the descending manner.
Here, the general rules are established in the ascending manner.
  vii.         Importance
With the help of this concept, it is not possible to interpret geography in a accurately, perfectly & precise.
With the help of this concept, it is possible to interpret geography in a precise, theoretical & logical way.
viii.         Application
The Regional geography is explained in this way.

This approach is much more based on assumptions.

     x.         Practical Application
This approach is applied to small regions.
This approach is applied to large regions.
Conclusion:
From the above discussion it can be seen that these two concepts differ greatly from the point of view. Nevertheless, these two ideas are essential in all geography studies. But with the progress of the time, the dichotomy between these two concepts has increased. As a result, in the sixties of the world century, the idea of geographical analysis & realism came about.
